Thump-thump. Thump-thump.
A heart pounded strongly as legs sprang out to touch the earth. Several muscles contracted in time with the steady beat. Beautifully shaded, amber-brown eyes stared out from scruffy black fur and took in everything that they saw….
Thump-thump. Thump-thump.
Grass was burnt, blackened, and crunched at the touch of the black beast’s body. Naked ebony branches reached up and raked at the sky. The sun was rising; its bloody red tendrils of light streaking out into the vast blue. The air itself was burnt and wounded, and the creature’s muzzle wrinkled in disgust. The eyes continued to search for a distinct point of life. They saw none but instead jerked up. In the distance, actually not very far from where the creature ran, was a looming red mound of rock, with gray-black, dried lava battering the mountain. A snarl ripped out into the air from the creature, and the eyes suddenly found themselves looking at the ground as the animal stumbled.
Thumpthump-thump. Thump-thump—
Obsidian stood up shakily, pain screaming in every inch of his body. He sucked in his breath and took a cautious step forward, setting his forepaw down on the earth. He staggered again, unable to put much pressure on his limb. His amber eyes rolled, and he turned his head to look at his hind leg. It was still mangled and broken. He sighed; the black wolf would have to find a shaman sometime, even if it probably wouldn’t heal. He shook out his ragged coat and swished his torn tail.
Thump-thump. Thump-thump.
Suddenly, the black wolf perked up his torn ears. He had thought that he heard something in the naked bushes surrounding him. His eyes narrowed to pick out any shape besides the sharp branches. I’m hearing things, he told himself simply. He was already almost deaf because of the damage done to his ears. He turned around and sighed, starting to limp back away, his injured leg hanging off of the ground. Obsidian looked up again at Ember Mountain, the volcano that had done all of this damage to both him and the land.
Thump-thump…
…I wonder if Mica’s okay, the beta wolf pondered briefly. He had put all of his thoughts toward getting toward a safe place and toward surviving, eating, breathing, keeping his heart pumping. He now allowed them to drift toward Volkenoneka-Zaburi Pack. How ironic that the most powerful pack’s own land had destroyed itself… He snorted and looked to the north. He had heard from loners here and there that Janichanua had been attacked by the arctic pack to the farthest reaches of the Lela Zaburi lands. He knew that they were thriving. Yes, how ironic it was… The harsh, arctic land supported the largest pack now, while the fertile soil of the Blossoming Leaf pack raised no wolves, and the rich southern lands of the former strongest pack had been burnt down.
Thump-thump. Thump-thumpthumpthump.
Obsidian whirled around something, his ears quivering. A noise had rang out across the Death Forest, but he couldn’t register what it had been. It could have been a noise between a roar, a howl, or a footstep… Which meant that anything could be nearby. All the wolf knew was that it was a noise other than the wild pounding of his heart. Hey, at least it was pounding at all…

A mangled, once-white wolf lay heaped next to a tall elm, he was Theluji of Volkenoneka. His body was broken, his fur singed, he could barely move…but at least he was alive. Images flashed through his head…the volcano, lava pouring over the forests, Mica’s pups trapped under the wrathful lava. He’d tried to help them, but he’d been too late. Now he lay, too weak to move, but not yet injured enough to die. ‘Death would be only too kind for me, Lupus wants me to suffer,’ he thought bleakly. After laying for what seemed hours, he finally managed to pull himself into a sitting position and groomed what was left of his wondrous white pelt. His sapphire eyes were deep holes of pain and anguish. ‘Mica, Obsidian, Fra’kin, are they okay?’ he asked himself, troubled. What would happen if he was the last member of Volkenoneka. Surely he wouldn’t become alpha, not after being in the pack for less than a moon.
His still keen ears picked up a faint sound far off in the distance, footsteps. Alarm rippled through him, followed be a fleeting glimmer of hope. ‘Could it be Mica? Or Obsidian? Or was it an enemy, come to kill me?’ He let out a howl, mournful and anguished. ‘If they have come to kill me, then I’ve lead them to me and death will come quick…if it’s a Volkenonekan, then maybe we can reform the pack.’

Obsidian’s ragged ears swiveled on his head again, but he couldn’t pick anything up but the beating of his own heart. He closed his shaded amber eyes with a frown. He thought again of his former pack, wondering where he should go next. He sniffed the burnt air again, sneezed, and then looked at the ground. It was blackened. Everywhere he looked, he was met with death, except for when his eyes rose to the brilliant blue firmament. Even then, it looked as if Lupus was mocking him. See, Volkenonekan? the wolf god seemed to say. Look. My realm is brilliant and blue and clear, while yours is blackened and dead.
Obsidian’s ears twitched again, and he turned around although the action pained him. He hobbled in the direction of the noise again, which he identified finally as a howl. He limped toward the sound on his three good legs, his ragged tail swaying behind him. If it was a trespasser, he’d meet him in battle if it were suicide or not. He just prayed it was Mica, Theluji, or one of the pups...
The black wolf saw a lump of dirty white against a charcoal elm tree. He saw the mournful sapphire eyes even in the shadows, and he broke out into a grin. “Theluji,” he murmured. “Theluji, it’s me.” He frowned at the poor whelp, battered and broken and looking near hopeless. He made to run toward him, but the beta crashed into the ground; his legs had given out under him. He had run for so long on three legs, and his mangled one was just a burden. He crawled on his belly until he was a few feet away from the young wolf. Though his eyes were sad, he offered him a warm smile of recognition.

“Obsidian!” Theluji cried hoarsely, the word seemed to slice his burned throat and he wished he hadn’t yelled. The young white wolf stared at the Volkenoneka beta, Obsidian was no better off than he was. “Ausi…Angalia…Mwako…dead…all dead, I tried to save them…I was too late,” he whispered regretfully. “Thank Lupus that at least two of Volkenoneka survived. This was the day Mica was returning from Wisdom Peak…I just hope she was late.” His alphess had left a few days before to check out the new territory called Wisdom Peak, she was scheduled to return today, Theluji hoped she hadn’t come back before the volcano erupted.
Painfully, the young varg pulled himself to his feet, finding that his front left paw was bent backwards and the bone was jutting out of his flesh causing a pool of blood to form around him. “Lovely,” he whispered sarcastically, gritting his teeth in pain, “Well, this foot’s useless.” Then, testing the other three, he found them to be strong enough to support his weight. “Obsidian…can you walk, we have to get back to camp…if Mica’s anywhere, she’ll probably be there.”

“Obsidian!”
The ebony wolf smiled; the younger lupine had recognized him. Theluji began to whisper, telling him that the pups had been killed in the eruption. Obsidian shook his head in grief all the while; he had adored the little ones and had often babysat them for his alpha. His ruined ears perked up as Theluji mentioned Mica, and his heart surged. There was a chance that their leader was okay, then.
The charred white wolf stood up, and Obsidian sucked in his breath when he saw the protruding bone from his paw. It looked like both of the males would have to deal with three legs. He frowned grimly and met Theluji’s eyes as he said something else. Obsidian strained to hear.
“Eh? Oh... I can walk,” he muttered. He also heard him mention camp, and he staggered to his feet. His mangled leg added extra, useless weight, so he growled. He hobbled over to the young wolf and offered him a smile. “Well, to camp, then,” he sighed. His gait was slow, as from collapsing his other legs had been hurt a little. Walking was agony for the beta wolf. He sat down—in an awkward position because of his broken hind leg—and looked over his shoulder. “Will you be okay, Theluji?” he asked, indicating the wolf’s paw. “I mean... I could try and find help, if you’re hurt.” He knew he himself was injured, but he wanted to make sure the arctic wolf was okay.

“No, I’ll be fine…you’re not any better off than I am,” Theluji’s growl came pained as he began to hobble forward. The blackened wolf turned slowly to face his beta, one of the black wolf’s legs was broken and useless. ‘So we both only have three working legs…I wonder if we’ll make it?’ Theluji thought bleakly.
“Camp…we have to get to camp…” the varg gasped brokenly as he attempted to walk forward. His gait was painfully slow, his other legs had been injured as well, just not as bad as the broken one. He had to find Mica though…to see if she was alive and well. “Obsidian…can you make it that far?” he asked, concern for the black wolf overlaying the pain in his voice. Obsidian had run on three legs, Lupus knows how, but it had weakened him and Theluji feared he wouldn’t make it to the Treasure Beach.

The pup—well, he wasn’t such a pup anymore—replied with an indignant growl that sounded agonized. The beta narrowed his amber eyes and attempted to stand up. He swayed on his paws and walked toward where Treasure Beach rose out of the rolling, powerful ocean water. He turned his head to see if Theluji would be okay; the white wolf was moving a lot more slowly.
Obsidian wondered what damage had been done to the other Volkenoneka warrior. He himself had managed to adjust his gait to cope with his injured leg—although it had been anything but easy. He could walk only a little bit slower than usual, but the younger wolf looked in pain. He perked up his burnt ears as Theluji said something, mentioning camp again.
He turned his head toward Theluji once more. The ivory canine’s mouth moved, but Obsidian couldn’t make anything out. He growled to himself and moved on, picking up the pace. The older wolf stumbled again and leaned up against the thin trunk of a burnt tree. He looked around to see that Theluji was a lot farther behind than he, and he felt guilty. The beta’s mind suddenly flashed with memories.
Images flared up behind his eyes, and within his skull he could hear the past a lot more clearly than his surroundings in the present. He saw through his own eyes, long ago, when he was little more than a year old. He saw lightning dancing down to earth, flames licking up in front of him, felt hate in his heart. He could almost taste the bark of the branch he picked up as he brushed its tip on the burning grass.
Obsidian saw the path to his brother’s new camp ahead. Hate burned within him, converting grief and loss into pure fury. In reality, his eyes were glazed over, and his lips were lifting to show his fangs. Back within his vengeful reverie, he heard screams of pain as the forest burst into flame. He felt himself running away with his own laugh sounding within his skull.
Obsidian’s memories flashed ahead of time, back with Amethyst and Agate. He saw a tawny wolf launch into his path, knocking him over. Pain erupted in his shoulder from the old scar Tawny Paws had dealt him. He saw his brother and gasped aloud. His ears were burnt to almost nothing, his fur was ragged in patches, and half of his face was utterly destroyed. The other half was burning with hate. His brother’s single red eye glowed and rolled in its socket, and pain from his recollections flared up again.
Outwardly, Obsidian simply collapsed.
ooc// Aren't Mica, Eaglewing, and Faellan coming into this thread? And yeah, I know this post was weird; Obsidian's not gonna die.

{Theluji}
THe young varg gasped as his beta collapsed. "Obsidian!" Theluji exclaimed, concerned. His howl echoed through the charred remains of the forest, loud enough for any wolf to hear. "I'll get help...you won't make it to camp..." at a lurching gait, the arctic wolf attempted to make his way to camp. It however was very hard to walk without the asisstance of his front left paw and even the three that weren't broken were sore and weak.
Just as Obsidian did...he collasped a little ways off from the black beta. He tried to crawl forward, but found he was rooted to the spot. 'This is the end...the end of Volkenoneka. We're going to die...Volkenoneka's all dead,' he thought despairingly.
{Mica}
A regal auburn form stalked through the ruined forest. Charred trees loomed up on either side of her, piles of ashes were all that remained of some trees and bushes. Ash and hardened lava coated the forest floor and rocks. Mica tried to not dwell on the fact that her territory was so damaged. Eaglewing silently trailed behind her, letting her half-sister and alphess get lost in her thoughts. (Sarita consents to this...*cough*)
Suddenly she heard a shrill howl that broke through the silence of the dead forest. "Theluji!" she cried, recognizing the voice, "He's alive," she cried out joyously. 'But for how much longer?'
Following her keen ears, she raced towards the sound. Bursting through a few charred bushes, her emerald eyes were met with a pitiful sight. She saw the young white varg...though he could hardly be called white anymore. Half his fur was singed off and that that remained was blackened with ash. A little ways off from him, she spotted another form, at first she was unsure whether it was Fra'kin or Obsidian. A quick scent of the air told her it was her beta rather than her mate. 'He's dead...' Mica thought...accepting the worst.
She turned her attention back to the mass of black fur...she could only tell he was alive by the faint rise and fall of his chest as he laboriously breathed. "Obsidian! Theluji! Maybe Lupus hasn't forsaken me quite yet." The auburn alphess looked over her shoulder at Eaglewing.
"So...maybe this is your first chance to test your skill as Shaman. They'll die without any healing aid...even minimal knowledge will help."
{Theluji}
Behind his sapphire eyes, Theluji's head pounded and his heart pounded even louder. He barely heard or saw his alphess, her words were mumbled and distored...yet he realized it was her. "Mica..." he whispered, his voice weak and broken, "Thank Lupus you're alive." At that, the young varg passed from consciousness.

Eaglewing followed the alphess silently. Her eyes were wide with terror and sweeping over the land, taking in everything that she saw. The trees, that must have once been so mighty and undying, lied in a heap on the ground in ashes. Some of their blackened remains still stood, bare and dead…but it was equally depressing. The undergrowth was nothing but a tangled mass of soot that broke easily underfoot. Not a bird in the sky sang and there was no prey left to be softly scrabbling along the forest floor. A pungent smell reached her nose and she recoiled slightly. It was the smell of many rotting carcasses lying unseen in the heat. She knew that it was prey that was unable to escape the lava flow. Or at least…most of its prey… The thought popped up automatically and she shivered at the thought that there may be the bodies of dead wolves nearby. She decided hurriedly that she didn’t want to think about it…
Instead, she looked up at Mica, the only other living thing in her site. She looked so strong and as though she had already accepted the fate of her territory and pack. Oh Mica…now I know why you seem so indifferent….now I know. From what she could tell, her sister had been determined to make her pack strong. She had worked hard for it, but as soon as it was finally in her grasp…it was suddenly snatched away…her territory… her friends and family. All of it was gone. Lupus! There must have been a reason that this all happened, but I truly can’t see it! What did she do wrong? This is surely the cruelest punishment that I could think of…how could you do this? How?
A howl broke through her thoughts. It was ragged and desperate. The creature was in pain…but yet it was a joyous sound because it was a sign of life…wolven life. She saw Mica sprint ahead towards the howl, and Eaglewing leapt after her. Whatever had made that noise needed help, fast. She crashed over the dead vegetation as she sprinted towards the source. Mica came to an abrupt halt, and Eaglewing scrabbled to stop as well. What she saw chilled her spine as she stared in terror. Lupus! What have you done?!
In front of her was a wolf. He was still conscious, but barely so. Even the faint look of relief at their arrival could not mask the obvious pain that he was in. Most of his fur had been burned off, leaving a nasty shining red burn where it had been. At some places, it cracked and bled. The little fur he had left was stained black from soot, but in a few places, she could see a pure white shining through. She looked closer at the injured wolf and saw that his front leg was bent the wrong way and was hopelessly broken. It was injured so badly, that a bit of bone had actually broken through skin. Blood dripped sickly down his arm. She closed her eyes because she couldn’t bear to look at the suffering wolf any longer. But images danced inside her eyelids. Blood…flowing and dripping…blood… She was hyperventilating now. She couldn’t stand it. She looked beside him, just trying to look away, but the sight next to him was no better.
Yet another injured wolf was lying on the ground next to him. He was unconscious, but there was a horrid expression frozen on his face. He was struggling to even breathe and probably wouldn’t last much longer. Like his companion, one of his legs was also broken, but it would heal in time. If he lives long enough for it to heal… He had a burn as well, but it was much worse than the other’s. It was cracked, bleeding, and stiff. In places, the shining red turned to a disgusting purple. What little fur he had left shone a dull black. His ears were ragged and torn. She looked at the ground as it seemed that nowhere was safe to look anymore. All the while, desperate thoughts rang through her head. How could this happen? Lupus, how could you let this happen. At this point, death would be a blessing for these wolves. They’re suffering horribly. Every accursed breathe must be painful, every heartbeat only prolongs their agony. To kill so many…and to do this to the rest…do you truly have no mercy? I know that you must have had a reason. I know that in my heart. But what could it have been to administer such a punishment? What did they do wrong? She shook off these thoughts. If she had doubts about Lupus, then there was truly nothing left for her, in this world or beyond it.
‘So...maybe this is your first chance to test your skill as Shaman. They'll die without any healing aid...even minimal knowledge will help.’ WHAT?! She doubted that even an expert healer could save these wolves, let alone a novice that didn’t know hardly anything! She didn’t even have any herbs with her, and she didn’t know what was in the area! She had nothing to heal these wolves! Even if she did know where the herbs were, they would most likely be burnt to ashes by now. Panic flared inside her. If she failed or refused, then her sister would never forget it. I have to try! she resolved. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down…it didn’t work. “Okay…Mica. Do you know of any herbs around here that might still be alive? Any at all? I don’t know what grows around here or what parts of the territory has been unscathed by the eruption…” She’d start at the basics and go from there.
[it isn't as good or as long as the first one...but I tried... It said there were 967 words...and the other one was longer...think about what I lost the first time and you'll understand why I was so ticked...]

The regal alphess stood completely still for a second, her eyes shut tightly, sealing out the images of her injured packmates. Through her mind raced thoughts of the few things Renaj had taught her...but that had been long ago, at least two years. The Berry Forest had once been crawling with healing herbs...but after seeing the destruction, Mica knew that it was no longer so.Helplessness threatened to overwhelm her and despair gnawed at her heart as she again opened her deep, fathomless emerald eyes. You have to think! You can’t let them die! a voice shouted inside her head as the alphess almost gave into her despair. I know…but how? They’re almost through the Black Gates…everything’s burnt…what herbs will be left? the auburn wolfess thought desperately. She was given no answer.
“Maybe…the Ruin Valley…” she whispered uncertainly to herself, “The lava missed it…it’s either that or other pack territory.” If the ruin valley yielded none of the needed herbs…they’d have to venture into Janichanua Territory and possible bring about the absolute end of Volkenoneka. But if there was anyway to save Theluji and Obsidian, she had to try. Annatto… Mica suddenly remembered a herb used to cure burns, It grows in the Ruin Valley, I’ve seen it before, green tendrils climbing over the stone fragments.
Then yarrow will help with the wounds, it can also be found there, along with poppyseeds to numb the pain. the voice whispered again. It sounded strangely familiar…then it hit her…it was Renaj. The late Volkenonekan shaman and her mother was talking to her through her mind.
How…? Mica thought, amazed beyond belief. How could the dead communicate with the living? How could she be talking to her dead mother through only her mind? The ginger alphess’s mind swirled with questions, but she decided to keep quite, finding that the healing of Obsidian and Theluji was more important.
Lupus…he’s allowed me to communicate to you through thoughts…but only until Eaglewing has learned all that she can from me through you. I shall teach her the ways of the shaman through you. Aloe will also help them where the fur has burnt off and all that remains is raw skin. It is found on the Treasure Beach, a deep green, rubbery plant.
Still shocked beyond belief, Mica nodded, Yes, I’ve seen it before. She realized at that moment that she’d been staring blankly at the two injured wolves while she was talking to Renaj. The auburn wolfess shook herself, pretending all was normal.
I leave you now. Gather what I told you and save the last two members of Volkenoneka… Renaj’s voice whispered as it faded into the mists. “Goodbye, mother,” only after murmuring this did Mica realize she’d said it out loud, blushing with embarrassment and not wanting to explain she quickly turned to Eaglewing.
“The Ruin Valley and Treasure Beach have all the herbs you’ll need. They’re undamaged by the volcano so the herbs still live. Annatto is found snaking across the stone pieces in the Ruin Valley. It’s a very dark green vine-like herb and its leaves are used to soothe burns. Yarrow is a bush-like plant also found in the Ruin Valley. Its leaves are a lighter green hue and it has pale brown branches. Yarrow is used to stop infection and bleeding, you’ll only need that for Theluji. Then, poopyseed is found there as well, it’s a single large flower where hundreds of seeds reside. It will numb their pain and help them rest. On the Treasure Beach grows a plant called Aloe. It’s a rubbery deep green plant; its leaves are long, skinny triangles. It will soothe the broken and raw skin where the fur has burnt off,” Mica quickly told her all the Renaj had said, hoping she’d left nothing out.
The alphess’s attention snapped back to the dieing wolves…they needed help immediately. “I can collect the herbs, for I know this terrain. First I’ll go to the Ruin Valley and as quickly as possible I shall return to you. You can then administer the herbs while I go to the Treasure Beach. Aloe isn’t as important as the Annatto and Yarrow, so I’ll get it last. Is that okay with you?”
Mica looked again at Obsidian and Theluji, she hated seeing them in so much pain. Her heart wrenched painfully so it was as though she shared their agony. Then, she suddenly remembered something Renaj had said… ‘Save the last two members of Volkenoneka.’ “So Fra’kin and my pups are dead…” the aurburn wolf murmured sadly to herself. She wanted to curl up and forget all her duties and be alone with her grief. But, as alphess she knew that was no option. She had to keep the few members of the once almighty Volkenoneka alive and keep their hope alive even if hers had vanished long before. Briefly she thought of the wolf, Faellen and if he’d decided to stay or not and where he was now.
The wolfess’s emerald eyes glittered in pain as she remembered a day long ago.
“Dog pile on Obsidian!” Angalia was yelling. Mica watched with tears sparkling in her eyes as her pup playfully attacked the beta. Out of nowhere came Mwako, he dug his small teeth into the black wolf’s leg.
Mica noticed how fit and healthy Obsidian looked…he looked so different from the mangled, charred black form in front of her. Then, Malaika came and pain wrenched at her heart as she remembered the beautiful albino, mute pup. On the night of Renaj’s death she’d disappeared, gone to find Hatsyume. It had been over a moon since then and Mica knew that an evil fate had befell the unfortunate pup.
Malaika leapt onto Obsidian, not to be outdone by her talkative brother and sister. A smile curled slightly on Mica’s face as she watched the peaceful scene. All the tranquility of pack life had been destroyed in only one day…
Then a magnificent black figure appeared and pain awoke fresh in the regal femme’s heart. ‘Fra’kin!’ she wanted to call out, though she knew he wouldn’t hear her. This was only a memory and when she opened her eyes…it would be over. She watched as her dead mate walked silently over to the heap of pups. He was laughing, the happy sound made a bittersweet emotion well up in the wolfess’s heart again.
Unable to watch the scene of tranquil pack life any longer, Mica opened her eyes and found herself in the blackened and charred remains of the Berry Forest once more. Above her loomed a tall sequoia tree. The trunk was charred, but near the top a few brave leaves still clung to undamaged branches. ‘Maybe this was a sign that although some of Volkenoneka had died…the ones that remained would live,’ she thought.
Suddenly, the tree turned its natural brown color again, the wood became strong and thick once more and leaves sprouted from the new branches that formed from the trunk. Gasping, Mica realized what this meant…Volkenoneka would come back just as strong as it had before. She blinked and the tree was blackened again, but now hope flared in her chest and for the first time in the past two days, she sent thanks to Lupus.

A light wind ruffled the still wolf’s shaggy, tattered coat. Obsidian’s eyes were still closed, and his breathing came with more and more effort. He hadn’t heard the footsteps of the other canines as they approached him and the other injured wolf. He was aware only about what was going on within his mind, and both this and his hard hearing kept him from being aware of the familiar and unfamiliar faces that had drawn near.
Within his mind, memories fluttered by; they were weak recollections that he attempted to grasp. He latched onto an image that drifted across the dark void he found himself standing at the edge of. Immersing himself within the image, he was aware of several other senses being dulled to the real one and being sharpened to the memory. Obsidian saw grasslands morph up around him, and he was aware of the warmth of another body standing beside him. The black wolf turned his head and smiled warmly at the white she-wolf at his side. “Amethyst,” he whispered, nuzzling into her fur. He didn’t understand where the memory fit, but the words floated out of him like they were waiting to. He continued softly, “We’re almost there, Amethyst. After we cross the stream, we have a few days to go, and then we will reach the safe land, the Neutral Territories.”
The white wolf nodded and smiled. She leapt past him, sweeping her tail across his muzzle, and sprang out into the field. A gray, brown, and cream male ran to her side; Obsidian recognized the lean muscles of Agate, the brother of Amethyst. He broke into a grin and ran after them, recalling new warmth in his heart. Suddenly, a scent hit his nostrils like a battering ram. He whirled around, though he couldn’t distinguish it in this dream Earth, and he found himself facing a rich ginger she-wolf. He stammered, “Mica? Mica, is it you?”
The red wolf blinked at him and turned around, leaping off into the distance. Obsidian scrambled after her without a word. This wolf seemed familiar, but he wasn’t sure exactly who she was. He growled slightly in his throat as he chased after her. Suddenly, the dream wolf stopped and turned around again. She lowered her eyes and put one paw forward, as if pointing. The ebony male turned to see where the paw was aimed at, and he saw a single tree burning brightly with flame. Obsidian growled, but when he turned, the red wolf was no longer there. A voice reached his mind, speaking in a tongue not his own, as it tried to explain what was occurring.
The black wolf growled again as the hissing voice whipped up into his mind. Suddenly, flame shot through his blood. He felt the adrenaline of battle, yet at the same time the white-hot bolt of fear. He scented death in his nostrils, but there was nothing near him. Obsidian yelped and began to run from the burning tree, as the voice spoke again. Even if he couldn’t understand its words, the voice was very reassuring and crackled into his mind. He felt as if it was trying to herd him back toward the tree, and he blinked in surprise. The red she-wolf was sitting at its base, her tail wrapped neatly around herself as it came to rest on her forepaws. Obsidian saw half of the wolf’s face fade away, until it was replaced by half of Amethyst’s face. His heart began to beat faster out of fear and confusion.
“Wake up, Obsidian,” the strange wolf murmured. “Your path has not yet ended. You still have very far to go, brave warrior.” He looked up into the wolf’s eyes—one was violet and familiar, and the other was a stunning emerald green. He recoiled as he recognized Mica’s eye. He had gotten used to the fury in it, the sadness, so he didn’t recognize the calmest appearance in that droplet of emerald amongst burning ginger.
“Obsidian!” a voice snapped. Exasperated, exhausted, and even frightened of all of the visions, Obsidian looked away from the she-wolf to see a black wolf much like himself. He saw glittering sapphire eyes narrowing at the sight of him, and suddenly the wolf leapt. Obsidian let out a pained howl as pain exploded anew in his body...
Obsidian jolted awake.
Obsidian lifted his head, suddenly aware of his own beating heart, of Theluji’s next to him, and of eyes staring down at him. He couldn’t move, as pain spread through his body when he shifted himself, and he dropped his head back to the ground. He lifted his amber eyes instead as a dull ache pounded through his skull. He hadn’t understood any of his unusual vision. He had never gotten one before, so he decided it was just a fevered dream. It compared Mica and Amethyst, and that last wolf looked like Fra’kin, he thought. It doesn’t matter... Thinking about it is foolish; I’m a warrior and a beta, not a shaman. He dismissed the dream completely.
As he thought, Obsidian searched the regal alpha female standing over him. She was appearing distant. He frowned slightly—though even that action pained him—and looked over her body again. She didn’t seem nearly as hurt as he or Theluji, but she did seem a bit ragged and stunned by the volcano. Why shouldn’t she be? Her whole pack could have been wiped out.
Obsidian didn’t recognize the other female with her. She was a deep, rich chestnut in color with black flecks in her fur. Her amber eyes were far from matching Mica’s brilliant green ones, so he wasn’t aware that they were related. He didn’t know if she was a part of the pack or not, so as Mica lifted her gaze to a burnt sequoia tree, he took the time to glare distrustfully at the newcomer. His limbs trembled as he tried to lift the upper half of his body off of the ground. With a grunt, he collapsed again. He didn’t have the strength to speak, so he let his muzzle fall onto his paws and let out a long sigh.
ooc// Rawr. Excuse the unusual dream thingy... It's just a dream... That was only 1,031 words, by the way. I don't give a damn about length anyway, but...meh.
Sarita, your dogs and accursed sister gave me the worst headache imaginable...
